Chairman Letter

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Dear parents and students:

The 2020-2021 academic year was highly unusual in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and its deleterious impact on our lives.  Many of us were stuck home for weeks and months on end and our days were spent stuck behind a computer screen rather than interacting with our beloved students.  Our amazing students truly make our day!  The pandemic sadly stole the lives of many loved ones and adversely affected the businesses and livelihoods of numerous families.  During such trying and difficult times, our primary focus was – as it will always be – on the physical and mental health of our students, staff and faculty.  It was truly heartening to see the entire Sands family support each other during these challenging times. We cannot thank you enough for all your support and hard work during this unusually hard period.

Despite the many challenges Covid-19 presented, the Sands family came together beautifully and we are proud of the incredible achievements made by our students from KG1 all the way to Grade 12, both in the International and Tawjihi streams. We all adapted to on-line education quickly seamlessly and although on-line education is truly no substitute for in-person education, parents, teachers, students and all members of the Sands family cooperated with one another and worked tirelessly so that we can truly say that we bid farewell to this academic year proud of all of our amazing students and their many achievements.

We are eagerly looking forward to welcoming our dear students back to school for in-person learning in the new academic year 2021-2022.  We miss them incredibly! For the next year, we promise you that Sands will be even better equipped to welcome, educate and build the leaders of tomorrow:

  • Fully Vaccinated Staff. As the well-being and safety of our students will always be our top priority, every member of our well-qualified staff and faculty (teachers, administrators, bus drivers, cleaning persons, etc.) has taken both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
  • ISO 9001:2015. We obtained the prestigious International Quality Management Certificate concerned with controlling the quality of educational services and outputs.
  • New Learning Management System. We adopted a new learning management system, Eskadenia.  We believe this new system will substantially improve all communication with parents who are critical partners in this educational process.
  • Leading E-Learning Platforms. To ensure that the critical skills of Arabic, English and math are fully supported at the highest levels as well as to expose our students to coding, the language of the future, Sands has enriched its curricula by purchasing the following leading, highly reputable regional and international educational e-platforms that cater to the individual needs and pace of learning of each student:

Maths-Whizz, the UK’s leading online math tutor, which includes in-depth assessment, personalized learning plans and reporting tools and is powered by artificial intelligence.

Raz Kids, which supports the critical skills of reading and speaking in English by providing over 400 interactive, leveled eBooks spanning 29 levels that students can listen to, read, and even record themselves reading.

أنا أقرأ بالعربية”/ “I Read in Arabic” which supports the critical skills of reading and speaking in Arabic. Over 700 levelled books are available to our dear students.

HelloCode, a leading coding program that helps develop kids’ creativity, logic, problem-solving and critical thinking skills in a fun, entertaining manner.

Over the last year, we have refurbished and upgraded all of our premises and facilities, including our libraries, laboratories, playgrounds, and fields. Moreover, we recently launched an ambitious project to fully re-design, renovate and modernize the kindergarten and all its facilities which will be ready to welcome all our young Sands students for the new academic year 2021-2022.  A new and improved curriculum has been adopted as well.  Equally importantly, the kindergarten will have a new administration that provides our young students with the very best educational and learning experience in an interactive, fun, motivating and safe environment.

Finally, as you know, we conducted a detailed survey of all parents and solicited their input regarding the educational experience at Sands.  In addition to the students and their teachers, parents are the third critical element in the educational cycle and their role is of paramount importance. Please rest assured that we take these surveys very seriously and we are working diligently on implementing many of the survey’s key findings.  We hope you will notice the difference in the next academic year.

A huge “Thank You” to the entire Sands family – students, parents, teachers, faculty and staff – and we cannot wait to welcome you in person to the school in the fall of 2021.
